BMT Surveys employs marine specialists with significant experience in collision investigation, for both on-site investigation and post-incident review.
BMT has developed its own unrivalled software tool, REMBRANDT (REal time Manoeuvring, BeRthing AND Training), to simulate collision using accurately modelled vessel hull forms and prevailing environmental data such as visibility, wind, wave height and current.
After a collision has occurred (either at sea or in inland waters), it is important that contemporaneous evidence such as the voyage data recorder, course and telegraph recorder are secured for future investigation. To supplement the on-board data (or where there is scanty information available), BMT can secure a vast array of other information available through the various internet and shore-based services, especially if the incident occurred in port or in coastal waters. Having specialists appointed as soon as possible after the incident is vital in order to ensure no evidence is lost.
Once all the information has been collected, a reconstruction of the incident can be used to give a 3D representation of the incident for use in training scenarios, expert reporting in litigation or to supplement independent apportionment of blame in order to settle cases simply and quickly.
